Glowing kittens have been created by scientists through genetic engineering to aid in biomedical research, specifically to help fight feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
The kittens have a gene from a jellyfish, called Green Fluorescent Protein, inserted into their DNA so they glow green under a blue light. This glow acts as a visible marker
to confirm that the genetic modifications, including one that makes them resistant to FIV, have been successful.
